The ancient Forum Traiani

The first edification dates back the 1st century AD and was used for therapeutic purposes. It was feeded by an healthy hot water spring that nowadays flows at 54°C degrees. The “natatio”, a wide rectangular pool is the focus of the site.
The second plant built using a technique known as “opus vittatum mixtum” dates back to the 3rd century AD and is connected to the first one by a staircase which opens onto the porch of the natatio. Used for body care this building was provided by an artificial heating system and equipped of several rooms with different temperature. After the visit we will reach the thermal baths. The structure was build in 1800 on the left shore of the Tirso river very close to the archaeological area of the Roman Baths, in the “Is Bangius” area, where it is possible to take an healing and relaxing bath.

Fordongianus is an Italian town of 858 inhabitants in the province of Oristano in Sardinia, in the historical region of Barigadu. It is located on the left bank of the Tirso valley, it stands on the remains of the ancient fortified site of Forum Traiani.
